What will I be doing?

You will be providing solicitors and other conveyancing professionals with specialist property searches and reports (an essential part of the property-buying process in the UK). X-Press delivers almost 400,000 searches and reports to the conveyancing sector every year, and is trusted by more than 500 legal practices nationwide.

What, you may ask, is a property search? Property searches are an essential component of the conveyancing process, giving our industry the security of regular, repeat business which is recession proof. This benefits our franchise owners as they are able to nurture stable, lasting relationships with long-standing clients.

Most of your work would relate to property sales, developments, remortgages and repossessions for both residential and commercial markets. As such, the property search industry is almost entirely business-to-business, and your client base will predominantly be legal professionals.

What is the nature of the business?

Do I need a legal background?

No. Your clients will be the legal professionals. Our existing network of franchisees come from all walks of life, and a diverse range of backgrounds and former careers – so no previous experience of the property search or conveyancing sector is necessary as full training is included as part of the franchise package.

What skills do I need?

Our franchisees come from many different career backgrounds, but as the nature of the reports we prepare for clients are legal documents, accuracy and attention to detail is vital. You must also be an excellent communicator to enable you to build a strong client base and maintain long and lasting relationships. Typically, X-Press Legal Services franchisees are:

What is a property search?

Property searches are an essential component of the conveyancing process, giving our industry the security of regular, repeat business. This benefits our franchisees as they are able to nurture stable, lasting relationships with long-term clients rather than brief, one-off consumer transactions. Most of our work relates to property sales, developments, remortgages and repossessions for both residential and commercial markets. As such, the property search industry is almost entirely business-to-business, and your client base will predominantly be legal professionals.

Can I run the business from home?

Yes. The business can be run from home, with minimal overheads. However, in time as the business grows, you may need to employ staff and an office base may be preferable.

What is included in the franchise package?

As part of your franchise package, you will be supplied with:
– A comprehensive IT and broadband package
– Access to our dedicated IT team who provide remote support
– X-Press branded stationery
– Your first marketing event

All you’ll need to provide is your own transport, along with a mobile phone and office facility.

What territory will I be responsible for?

Territories are aligned to local authority areas throughout England and Wales. Franchisees are awarded exclusive rights to an area with identifiable potential, which we finalise on an individual basis, taking into account local demographics. Territories currently available include:
– Northumberland
– South West Wales
– West London, NW Surrey & West Herts
– Kent
– Dorset

What is the length of the franchise agreement?

You can choose the length of your initial franchise agreement to be either five or ten years, with renewal options at a later date. The majority of our existing network elected for a 10-year licence, with almost half of our franchisees having been with us since year one.

Once I’ve completed my training, am I left to fend for myself?

Definitely not! We believe we are all in this together, and as part of a broader network we all support each other. The initial induction training programme is backed-up by an ongoing support programme which includes sales support, a mentoring scheme and the X-Press Academy, run by a leading Business Development Coach. The Academy consists of a series of bespoke workshops which are held on a regular basis, and subjects covered include all aspects of business management and personal development.
